Following a powerful, sold-out screening, this film is continuing its journey to reach wider audiences.

The Robert F. Smith Center for Digitization and Curation of African American History at NMAAHC partnered with us to make this event possible.  This aligns with their mission to provide access to the African American experience — experiences that must be shared so the resilience, determination, and strength of our people can be seen and remembered.

Since 2020, we’ve been awarded grant opportunities through Humanities DC, DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, and Library of Congress to finish this documentary.  Within the Of the People: Widening the Path Community Collections: American Folklife Center grant at the Library of Congress; viewers will soon be able to go to explore oral history interviews and audiovisual recordings of Virginia Johnson, Sandra Fortune-Green, Beatrice Davis-Williams, Lynn B. Welters, and Kahina Haynes.

Making Their Pointe was celebrated by WUSA9 during Women’s History Month, recognizing the film’s powerful portrayal of young Black dancers and their commitment to excellence. Moments like this affirm the importance of bringing these stories to wider audiences—and the continued support helping to make that possible.

We are currently raising funds to complete a professional trailer that will help bring this film to festivals and wider audiences.
